Shand’s Emporium is Christchurch’s oldest commercial wooden building (dating from the 1860’s). It didn’t come through the earthquakes very well and its future was looking bleak there for a while, but thanks to the efforts of property developer Anthony Gough and Christchurch Heritage it has been saved and will now be restored. Lovely to see and I look forward to visiting it once it’s open again.

Fortunate that it can be saved.

Good to see such a heritage structure saved. That was quite a move too having to lift it over the trams with a crane and back on to the transport vehicle again to complete its journey to its new destination!
