Yesterday, a friend and I took her dog for a walk through the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor. We got to the Dallington Bridge and realised it was the bridge we had both tried to find last year not long after it opened. It’s quite a unique looking bridge.
“Its design is inspired by Mōkihi, a small canoe-type vessel fashioned from raupō and flax. These were more suitable than waka for navigating streams and small rivers, such as the Ōtākaro.”

If you follow the track you’ll end up on Gayhurst Road. There are actually four bridges that cross the Avon River through this corridor.
The weather was beautiful yestereday, with lots of people out walking their dogs, or going for a bike ride. This was after a minus 3.9 start to the day (with a very healthy frost). We had another -3.9 start to the day again I believe. And another lovely sunny day.
