You can sit on the steps on the Terrace on Oxford Terrace and watch trout and eels swimming. Now that’s a pretty special experience that would be hard to have anywhere else.

I have to commend Christchurch for doing such a excellent job keeping the Avon River so clean and habitable! I can remember when I was young, the creeks and tributaries that ran though our city were filled with such abundant life until the city let things get out of control with urban sprawl, excessive storm water runoff, silt and other pollutants killing everything in all these once cherished waterways, Consider yourself extremely fortunate Christchurch had the foresight to stay ahead of things to keep such ecological disasters from happening!

I’m very grateful to all the people that have advocated for our waterways. I found the regeneration plan online Otakaro Avon River Corridor Regeneration Plan

I do wonder if our earthquakes have given us a unique opportunity to ‘do better’.

Thanks for the link concerning the Avon River corridor regeneration plan. This will indeed take time to fully read but from what I have read thus far, this needs more exposure to those willing to accept it as a blueprint for similar plans to be considered elsewhere (most cities on the rest of the planet).

Agreed, many cities have rivers and this would make an excellent blueprint.
