We went for a walk through Hagley Park to the Botanic Gardens today, and this spot by the Avon River and opposite Christs College was looking particularly verdant. It was a lovely day with a lot of people out enjoying the gardens.

As it’s a New Year, I decided my resolution would be to start blogging again, so here’s day one! I can’t promise I will stick with it, but enough time has passed since I was last blogging that there is a lot of new things to photo and write about.

Why the long break? Well, a few reasons, and I might write about them in a longer blog post. Some of it was a bit of disillusionment with the city’s recovery (a lot of it is good, but a lot of it has made me very frustrated), some of it was the feeling that I had photographed everything, I kind of lost my ‘photo mojo’ (worsening eye sight hasn’t helped) and I just didn’t want to take photos (except of my cat and flowers in my garden). And I think we can all agree the last few years in general have been somewhat challenging and draining for everyone.

Good luck for 2024, may it bring you all happiness and peace. And I’ll endeavour to bring you a piece of Christchurch – something I know many people loved seeing.

Glad to see you back. Speaking of cats, one of my two cats, a 15 year old Tuxedo Cat with near perfect symmetry of markings and a quite a personality and vocabulary (combinations of meows, purrs, body language or any mixtures thereof) to match had passed, and we have since adopted a short haired mixed breed black cat kitten (she’s almost fully grown at 8 months now) and seems to be mostly Bombay Cat for looks, size and personality. My remaining other cat is a 6 year old short haired mixed breed but he’s mostly Turkish Van. And here I was initially worried about introducing this new kitten to a cat nearly six times her weight, but she surprised me, showing no fear at all and quickly becoming the alpha cat of the pair. Now they have fun together, especially when they get the zoomies – they get the Zoomies! No need to worry about them getting any lack of exercise.

Back on topic: You’re not kidding about Hagley Park looking verdant green!
Again, I’m glad to see you back

So please you adopted a black cat! They are awesome and we have one that also looks like a bombay, and keeps us on our toes.
