Have you ever wondered what this cover on the ground was? Well I’d actually never even noticed it before until I had it pointed out to me by someone who knows about Christchurch’s water and sewerage systems. It’s one of the oldest sewerage pump stations in Christchurch. And if the fact that it’s the number 2 station amuses you then you are in good company.
Having noticed our mutual understanding of the amusement factor which may not make any sense at all to those of different cultures, I wonder if anybody has ever thought to do a linguistic anthropological study tracing its origins backwards in time to a Victorian era when it would have been food for thoughts? Haha 😉
