A daily photo from Ōtautahi, Christchurch, New Zealand
A mystery machine appeared in Woolston a few weeks back – I’ve been meaning to stop by and photograph it. Not sure what it does, kind of looks like a giant sewing machine to me (I’m sure it’s not). It has Perkins Maker Manchester on the side of it. Also looks a little steampunkish!
Well, this certainly got my train of thought going! I’ll have to admit it does look a bit steampunkish but the large 1800s vintage boiler at the back of this artistic contraption has been disconnected, probably from an old steam engine it had once operated …which leads me to believe the steam engine itself (or what was left of it?) may have ended up being used by a collector or two for the never ending need for spare parts, or rebuilt if parts were already available. And with that in mind, Steam Scene is already planning for another extravaganza to be held in April 2015 — might be an idea for an interesting photographic foray. 😀
