There are quite a few sunflowers in flower around the Mt Pleasant hill at the moment. That’s because back in October, many of us received a packet of sunflower seeds in our mail box with instructions to plant them by the gate so everyone could enjoy them. As you can see, a lot of people did just that. I believe the sunflowers came from the Mt Pleasant primary school. Well didn’t they do well?

I’ve been nurturing my sunflowers for months now and have been surprised at how determined they are to grow, even in poor soil conditions. It’s been very satisfying seeing them develop, and I for one will be saving the sunflower seeds and re-planting them next year.

Isn’t it? So community spirited. That’s one thing about going through a difficult time as a city – all of these amazing little things pop up all over the place.
