A bellbird in the gardens of our Motel

I have been in Akaroa this weekend and have loved every minute of it. I took a lot of photos both with my cellphone and my DSLR. Highlights of the weekend were going to The Giants House – a stunning garden full of the most incredible mosaic sculptures (you must see it to believe it), the birdlife – wow there are so many bellbirds – it was such a joy to wake up to their dawn chorus, walking up in the hills, the food (dinner at the The Little Bistro was sublime) and lastly the joy you get from just being somewhere interesting and quirky.

I remember Akaroa – it is a long drive up a winding road. We stayed in a lovely place about half down into Akaroa and took a lovely cruise to watch the dolphins. One could enjoy many days there if you had the time. I love the photo of the lady in the hammock.

Gerald, there is a winding hill you have to drive over and it made me a bit car sick coming back yesterday. Most of the trip is flat and not windy if you go back via Halswell (but if like us you go back via Lyttelton there’s more winding hills!).

Michelle, great Photos! On my way there this week and am just gathering tips notes from previous travelers. Love the the boots shot, looks like a Wizard of OZ with a NZ spin.
