Continue reading →: 185 Empty Chairs185 chairs. 185 lives lost. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the devastating earthquake that killed 185 people and injured many more. The chairs were painted by Pete Majendie as an act of remembrance. They are on display on Madras Street (where the Baptist Church once stood).

The apartment complex suffered damage in the December quakes and has became quite dangerous – with engineers concerned that it could collapse in another decent quake. So down it comes.
