Continue reading →: A bike ride through the red zone
This afternoon Bruce and I went on a bike ride from Avonside through the residential red zone (which is land that was so badly damaged from our earthquakes that all houses have been demolished – entire neighbourhoods are gone). We followed the Avon River right up to New Brighton and…

Continue reading →: Green Grass in the City
Looking towards the city from Madras Street it occurred to me how odd this photo will look in a few year’s time. Once there were buildings here – now grass and this large fence (which I think has sectioned off an area that’s going to be a large playground).

Continue reading →: The Bull is Back – now in New Regent Street
The bronze bull is back albeit temporarily. It’s current on display in my favourite little street – New Regent. Cantabrians are very fond of this sculpture and it will eventually have a permanent home in Christchurch. The bull is by artist Michael Parekowhai.

Continue reading →: Canadian Geese in the Central CityIt’s a Canadian invasion! I’m used to seeing Canadian geese around the estuary and other wetland parts of the city, so I got a surprise to see them right in town (this is by Oxford Terrace). They appear to have made themselves quite at home.

Continue reading →: Mary Duncan Park WalkwayI’ve known about this walkway for quite a while, but I didn’t know what it was like, where it went or the conditions of the walkway. I drive past the entrance to it a lot (it’s on Port Hills Road) and think “I must do that walk sometime…” and then…

Continue reading →: Autumn in the CityOh how I love Christchurch in Autumn and greatly admire the early visionaries who planted our wonderful trees (especially those in the Botanic Gardens and Hagley Park). This scene is by the Avon River on Oxford Terrace – just opposite the building development that will be The Terraces. As you…

Continue reading →: Entrance to Albion Square in Lyttelton
I love this new (well new to me) entrance to Albion Square in Lyttelton. I’m not sure when it went up – as I’m not often in Lyttelton. I couldn’t find any information about it online, so if anyone knows about the carvings please leave a message.

Continue reading →: View of Lyttelton from the top of the Bridle PathI walked up the Bridle Path track today for a bit of strenuous exercise (it’s rather steep). The reward is always the view of Lyttelton and the harbour.

I have a long time friend in Papanui as it’s on her side of town who would love Kai Co…
