Manchester Street Building
So this building on Manchester Street and Bedford Row already looks pretty worse for wear, but I couldn’t help testing out some of the photo settings on my new little point and shoot camera. Below is an unaltered image of the building. I’m not sure what this building’s future is – but I rather like…
A new view for New Regent Street
So there used to be a building at the end of this picture – and now it’s no more. What a difference it has made. I don’t know what the plans are for the land that had the building on it, but hopefully once something is rebuilt it will work in with the New Regent…
Transitional Cardboard Cathedral
The Trinity Window of the cardboard cathedral – it’s looking very colourful.
Thomas Edmonds Band Rotunda Dome
The dome of what was the Thomas Edmonds Band Rotunda which used to have the Retour Restaurant in it. The dome now just sits on the ground on Cambridge Terrace. I’m not sure if there are any plans to rebuild it. This is what it used to look like https://www.christchurchdailyphoto.com/2008/04/03/edmonds-band-rotunda/
New Building Going up on Kilmore Street
This building has been going up for a few months – it’s on Kilmore Street and can also be seen from Colombo and Peterborough Street. It has some fairly impressive steel beams.
New Regent Street
I popped into town to get a photo of the street with the building coming down – as to me it’s quite symbolic of where are are at the moment in Christchurch. Things are still changing, but some things have kind of stayed the same – we still have the beautiful New Regent Street. The…
Transitional Cathedral gets some Windows
The stained windows are now being added to the Transitional or ‘Cardboard’ Cathedral in Latimer Square. Apparently the Cathedral will be complete in late June.
Bronskis Dairy is Open Again and the Mural is Back
I drove down Ferry Road today and spotted the mural of the two ladies was back on the newly re-built Bronskis Dairy. So good to see them back in business – they re-opened on Wednesday. The mural of the two ladies is a bit of a landmark, so great to have it back up again.…
St Pauls Church in Papanui
This church is in Papanui on Harewood Road. I don’t know if it was badly damaged in the earthquakes, but it looks like there is work being done on it. And, as can be seen in the picture below they are raising funds for the repair.
Landsborough House / URS House Demolition
The best show in town at the moment… I’m not sure what it is that so engrosses some of us to watch these building demolitions. I know many people can’t watch or have no desire to at all. But for those who are interested in the process we are entranced by the animal-like quality of…
Brougham Street Re-built Office Block
A ‘new’ building on Brougham Street. It was actually stripped back to its frame and re-built, so is not technically new. I’ve watched over the months as they stripped back the building right to its foundations, and wondered what was going to be put back. Yes, it’s essentially a box with glass, but I think…
The changing face of Christchurch – it can be pretty fast!
At about 10.30am this morning I walked down the Re-Start mall and noticed they’d started demolishing this building (it had been a week or more since I’d been into the mall). At about 12pm I walked past again to find it was now in a big pile of rubble. That’s pretty fast work I think……
