I went on an organised ‘Walk The Talk’ tour today of Brooklands Lagoon, organised by Reuben Davidson MP for Christchurch East. Led by local experts (Peter Langlands and Councillor Joe Davies) we explored a small part of Brooklands Lagoon, a 270-hectare estuary that supports over 100 bird species and unique saltmarsh ecosystems. Once a residential suburb, the area underwent a dramatic transformation following the Canterbury earthquakes and is now a vital ecological sanctuary within Christchurch’s red zone. As you can see it was a stunning Canterbury day today.
