In late March I bought this bird feeder while at the Richmond Gala at Avebury House. It’s a really clever design, using a wine bottle. You fill the bottle up with seed or nectar / sugar water, put it in place and then slowly unscrew the lid. If using sugar water, the water falls into a small dish but then doesn’t overflow – and then as the birds drink the water it gets topped up. There’s also a little ledge where you can put food too – I’ve put out an apple core, and I’ve also got fat balls they love too.

We got the bird feeder installed reasonably quickly, but I didn’t see any birds on it until a few days ago. It’s mostly visited by Wax-eyes, but I have seen one bellbird on it too.

I never thought of doing that with a wine bottle, good idea.

It’s so clever. It can be fiddly getting the lid off, but I’m getting the knack for it.

Hi there, this design is great! Do you have any knowledge as to who makes them? I’d love to purchase some as Christmas presents.
