Shand’s Emporium, one of Christchurch’s oldest commercial buildings, has a rich history dating back to 1860. Originally located on Hereford Street, it was moved to Manchester Street in 2015 to preserve its heritage. The building survived the devastating earthquakes of 2010-2011. It was meticulously restored and reopened in 2019 as Whakamana, New Zealand’s first cannabis museum. Today, Shand’s Emporium has transformed once again. It now operates as Paddy McNaughton’s, an Irish bar. It continues its legacy as a vibrant part of Christchurch’s central city.
