I took this photo on August 24th but have been a bit slack over winter about blogging. There’s a lot I like about this view – the sweep of the Avon, the statue in the Avon, the newly restored Municipal Chambers (far right – the Queen Anne style building), the curve of the wide pedestrian walkway, the intense green of the grass, what will always be to me the ‘Caffe Roma building’ and lastly the magnificent Te Pae Convention Centre. The old Noahs/Rydges Hotel (large white building) is going to be renovated too, with hopes it will be open again at the end of 2026.

p.s, I had actually forgotten the date! But today is the 14th anniversary of the first large earthquake we had in Christchurch, which started the chain of quakes that lead to the most destructive quake in February 2011.
