On Sunday, the charming Glenmore House in Hillsborough, was the location of a delightful morning tea experience. The historic home, dating back to the 1850s, welcomed guests to its large garden adorned with mature trees and a cozy courtyard. As we took our seats outdoors, we were greeted by the warm aroma of freshly baked scones (they were delicious) prepared by Penny Wenlock, the creative mind behind the renowned Pukeko Junction Cafe. We then indulged in a number of delectable bites of sugary goodness – including a very moist and rich chocolate cake and an oaty caramel slice that was a fan favourite.

During Penny’s tour of the house, we learned about it’s history, and Penny shared anecdotes about the restoration process needed after the Christchurch earthquakes, revealing the challenges and triumphs of preserving this slice of Christchurch history.

It was a thoroughly charming and tasty way to spend a Sunday morning.

The profits from this event went to supporting the Christchurch City Chorus, who will represent New Zealand at the Sweet Adelines International Competition in Kansas City later this year. I’ve included one of their performances below.
