One of the unexpected benefits of the new library is the views you get from it. Here’s the view from one of the outdoor sections looking down into Cathedral Square.

    Looking at the distant background in the second photo, I can just make out Sugarloaf almost hidden behind Distinction Christchurch Hotel — Great views!

    (There’s some interesting tracks (Mitchell’s Track comes to mind) on the other side of Sugarloaf – if you’re up for some good exercise – and the views from below the steeper side of Sugarloaf are amazing!)

    Cathedral Square has a large number of buildings and statues that are registered as heritage items with Heritage New Zealand. Though many of them were damaged in the 2011 earthquake, it still worth visiting.
