These crosses in Cranmer Square bear the names of New Zealanders from the Canterbury region who were killed in action during 1915-1916.

Today is Anzac day – a day of remembrance for both Australians and New Zealanders. It commemorates all New Zealanders killed in war and honours returned service men and women. April 25th in history is the day the Anzac’s (Australia and New Zealand army corps) landed in Gallipoli in 1915. You can learn ore about the Gallipoli campaign here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_Day
