It was nice to see this old building on High Street getting some love and attention – I was surprised that it made it through the earthquakes considering the devastation to many other buildings on High Street. It’s located right by the new Stranges Lane building.

Found a bit more info on this building at: http://earlycanterbury.blogspot.com/2010/09/blog-post_10.html

You’ll find it about halfway down the page. Apparently it’s a rather old building, and like you I too was surprised it survived the earthquakes. Below are some stats I found listed for this building from the blog listed above:

    1883
    225 – 227 High Street
    architect: T. S. Lambert.
    owner: KPI Rothschild Property Group
The building was originally built for Bonnington’s Chemists and Black Beattie & Co., drapers. The owners received an award for the restoration from the Christchurch Civic Trust.

And even more info (and as to why it survived too) can be found at:

The reason I went through all the effort to search this out is that I was puzzled as to what style of architecture this was as it looks a bit art deco but not exactly… interesting history!
