Most weekends, I do a regular walk around the city. I usually start in the Restart Mall, then go down down Oxford Terrace, up into the Square, through to New Regent street and then either back down Manchester to High Street. I had a slight variation this week – going along the Avon River on Kilmore Street. The views looking back into the city from the Avon are really odd now and some parts of the river are really overgrown (just by Colombo Street by the Town Hall). Then there is a brand new building – the Forte Health hospital on Kilmore. It all so bizarre still, even after years of earthquakes, demolitions, and now construction.

Photos are: Top row, Forsyth Bar building from across the river, the Avon River by Kilmore / Colombo Street, a construction worker dummy by the Colombo Bridge works

Middle Row: The Forte Health building on Kilmore Street, The Majestic on Manchester Street

Bottom Row: What appears to be a bus depot on Armagh Street, High Street looking towards Alice in Videoland, Armagh Street coming into the Square.

It’s always nice to take a diversion from the usual walking route on occasions as there’s often quite a different perspective to behold. You seemed to have chosen a nice one along the Avon and produced some interesting results as shown in your pictures. Perhaps you may want to explore along other regions along the Avon River as I’m sure there’s much to see that’s different and surely a few surprises as well – perhaps that tall Maori carving (the Poupou) near Victoria Square might make a good subject for multiple photos from different angles?
