Today I’m featuring the beautiful Ilam Gardens and Homestead which are located right by the Canterbury University (near Homestead Lane). I can’t quite believe, that this was my first visit to the gardens, and I have lived in Christchurch for twenty years. I’m not sure how they escaped my attention for so long. The gardens are full of azaleas and rhododendrons and some very large and beautiful cherry blossom trees.
I would say now is probably a great time to see the gardens – though in a few weeks I suspect the azaleas will be out a little more (though the blossom could be gone)… I think this is probably a garden that excels at spring time, though I’m sure it’s lovely all year round.
As you can see from the photo above there are also parts of the garden that are lush and green with native trees.
So, if like me, you’ve not discovered these wonderful gardens, I highly recommend you get along there for a visit as soon as you can.
