This is a sculpture at the Christchurch Airport. The airport has had ongoing and rather extensive renovations and it’s looking rather spiffy inside and out. There are coloured LED lights, the traffic control tower that looks like an artwork and of course the actual artwork depicted above. I flew into Christchurch tonight after being in Wellington for a few days. Now if you want to make a Cantabrian slightly edgy, have them holiday in Wellington and stay on the 24th floor of an inner-city high rise hotel.

Nice to be back home to a lovely dusky sky.

I love it – stainless steel art works by Gregor Kregar! He’s also known for his giant stainless steel gnomes too. The man is awesome! 🙂

Thanks for the info about the artist, I wasn’t sure who it was and was in a bit of a hurry 🙂

When I first saw these photos jump off the page at me I knew it was the work of Gregor Kregar as I had been exploring his various art works online recently only a few weeks back, especially his stainless steel works as I’m familiar with how unforgiving this metal can be to work with (sheets of stainless steel can cut you if you even look at it the wrong way!), and yet this man has mastered it into seamless works of art that look like liquid mercury — my jaw dropped so far down somewhere along the way .. I’m still looking for it! And this is only the fabrication aspect of his stainless steel art works.

As for his various other medias as well, I’m equally impressed by his use of contexts and how he can take such ordinary subjects and transform them in such extraordinary ways!
