Prince Charles and Camilla were in Christchurch today. I’d not actually set out to photograph them, but came across the crowd waiting for them on Victoria Street. I was surprised that I was able to get close enough for some decent photos, as I was not very well prepared – having left my long lens at home (again). Repeat after me, take your long lens everywhere! I saw Charles and Camilla again at the Re-Start Mall – along with the Prime Minister and the Mayor.

What I had actually gone into town to photograph was the re-opened Victoria Square (named after Queen Victoria – Charles’s great-great-great Grandmother?). So rather fitting that the square was re-opened today.

We entered the square from what would have been the Crowne Plaza. They’ve created a footpath that goes through the amphitheatre and is fenced off. Once you are in the square it is very much the same as it was pre-earthquake, except there are a lot of missing buildings around the square.
