Antique & Collectables Fair

This morning I went along to the Antique & Collectables Fair. It’s an annual event, but I was a first time attendee. There was rather a lot to look at and photograph – lots of beautiful things. And I came home with a plate (so hard to resist but it was a bargain at ten bucks).

Some antique dolls. I had the baby doll in the blue dress (well one like it at least) when I was quite young. I called the doll Susie and unfortunately feed her real food. Not sure what happened to the doll, but guess it’s now a collectors item.

Love these genie bottles – so colourful.

    Looking at your first picture, I noticed an antique ceramic foot (and bed) warmer at the lower left corner. You don’t see many of these around nowadays!

    Well spotted, I’m not sure what that is though? Is it the cylinder shaped ceramic?

      Yes it is, and the brown ceramic cap (should include a rubber seal to prevent leaking) unscrews so that it can be filled with hot water. The flat side can be used like an iron to warm a mattress before sleeping and the rounded side can be used to warm your feet upon once the hot water inside has cooled a bit. As for where these were made, most of the marked ones that I have seen had small stamps on the unpolished flat end bearing the name of their manufacturer, and England.

      Looking at the type of ceramics used and their manufacturing techniques, I would also hazard to guess these were made by many of the same English companies that manufactured antique ceramic ginger beer bottles from between the 1830’s to the 1920’s.
