I was in the city today for lunch and decided to go and take a photo of the mural that’s recently been painted on the library which is on Peterborough Street. I then decided to take a bit of a walk along Peterborough Street and down the streets that intersect it (Colombo and Manchester). I had not been there for a few weeks and I was pretty stunned to see the entire block on Kilmore Street between Manchester and Colombo is now cleared.
This is what I had come to photograph – the mural on the library. It’s a mixture of animals that remind me of Egyptian pictographs.

A little park area that has recently been created. Seems so odd having such a neat and tidy spot with a backdrop of urban chaos.
One of the empty lots that is now on Peterborough Street.
What appeared to be a tour group on segways – the guy with his hand out was giving them a running commentary on the area.
An apartment block on Peterborough Street which has sunk quite a bit. The photo does not really show this well, but if you see it in person the house kind of plays tricks on your eyes, as it’s so crooked now.
What was the office of a finance company – on the corner of Manchester and Peterborough.
An entire city block gone – Kilmore Street (photographed from Manchester Street).

Lastly, here are some panorama photos I took with my cellphone. They distort things a lot, but should give you some more context on how this area is looking (bleak would be a good way to describe it). Click on the images to get larger versions.
