Daffodils in my new favourite vase

Four years ago today it was with some trepidation that I published my first blog post to Christchurch daily photo. I wasn’t sure if anyone would come to the blog, had no idea if I could actually manage a blog a day (turns out that on some days I can’t!), and of course I had no idea that I was going to end up being an archivist of a lost city.

My first blog post was of the daffodils in Hagley Park, so I thought it was appropriate to do a daffodil photo today. These beautiful daffodils were given to me yesterday by my partner’s lovely Mum (she picked them out at Leeston) – they are perfect and just right for the new vase I bought a few week’s back. The vase was a Riccarton Rotary Market (purchased for 8 bucks if I remember correctly). I fell in love with it and snapped it up right then and there (no hanging about making up your mind at markets I’ve discovered). I think the vase was made to hold daffodils as it just looks so right and cheerful.

It’s been a good week so far – with our home being put into the Green zone after months of being in the white zone and putting plans for renovations and fix ups on hold. Some parts of the hills are still white zoned – I certainly hope they get a decision soon so they can move on as well. We had a small shake at about 6am this morning – it’s funny but they often seem to be between 5-6am! It gave me quite a jump. Ironically, the fewer quakes we get the more upsetting they become – you get lulled into a false sense of calm. Well, I’ll just keep looking at my daffodils and everything will feel so much better!

Well done on the 4th anniversary Michelle. I know what you mean about not managing the odd day and I I am the same. The great thing about the daily photo project I think is that it is best to look at the bigger picture.

I love the daffs, they really do suit that vase.

Great news that you are in the green zone, however despite what they say (“OK to repair and rebuild”), it just means you go in the long queue for EQC settlements – I think it will take several years for them to get round to everyone under the $100,000 cutoff. We have been assessed but there is no sign of any action on repairs, and we can’t do non-earthquake related renovations until the earthquake related bits are fixed.
