No, we are not being invaded by an anachronistic society or some time-travelling Victorian soldiers! This is a mock battle from the Heathcote Ferry Festival to celebrate the Heathcote area’s history. They fired off the cannon and gave me quite a fright (I was over the other side of the river!).They were fending off an attack from a Maori Canoe (waka).
The waka party makes it’s approach – to be greeted by a lovely and very energetic Golden Retriever! Prisoners are taken!
