Red Rose on a wet day

It was drizzling when I snapped this red rose in the Mona Vale gardens.  I rather like the effect, even though personally I find roses are a little too perfect and photographing them can be like shooting fish in a barrel – not much of a challenge to get something pretty. But what is challenging is to photograph them more abstractly. Someone who can do this very well is my friend and professional photographer Sharon Blance. I was thinking of her collection of fine art nature photos when I framed up this shot – so thanks Sharon!  You must check out her work online at www.sharonblance.com.

Hey Michelle – beautiful photo! When I was doing my flower series I became quite enraptured with raindrops on petals too. You might want to have a look at this photostream on Flickr – it’s quite amazing (there’s a tutorial as well, if you’re keen!):

    Odd dewdrop series #6

Thanks also for the shameless plug 🙂

On a cold, gloomy date it is delightful to see this vividly red flower.
