Monarch Resting

monarch2

I came home yesterday having taking lots of beach photos.  I was unlocking the door when I noticed some fluttering. It was two large monarchs flying around each other. They’ve been visiting the tree by my door for months now. Thankful that I had my camera handy, I aimed and got this shot of one of them having a feed. It kept opening and closing it’s wings as they do… so it’s bit of a trick to know when to click! This monarch can’t be very old as it looks in good condition (no scratching on the wings).

A few years back I planted swan plants to attract monarchs and watching them go through their life cycle is absolutely fascinating. I could sit for hours and watch the caterpillars. I highly recommend it to anyone.

    Hi Michelle

Beautiful photographs! What a shame that in some parts of the country we are not encouraged to grow Buddleia, as the butterflies sure like it.

Do you get other butterflies visiting your garden?

      Hi Jacqui,

Thanks for the mention of the plant, as I didn’t know what it was (it’s on the neighbours side of the fence but hangs over). I don’t see many other butterflies at all.
