In Cathedral Square there is a giant chessboard and most Sundays you’ll see people playing a game of chess – usually with a small crowd watching the game. The pieces used to be black and white – take a look at this old post of another game I photographed a few months back.

    They are far fancier than the ones found in Hobart. Good find!

    They used to be white and black, but it’s really appropriate they are now red and black as these are the Canterbury Province colours.
