This is the start of the Heathcote cycleway (at Ferrymead end and looking away from the cycleway). The cycleway follows the train tracks, and makes it an easy and off road bike ride to the Tannery (a trip I’ve done a few times now on my bike). Today, was just a short walk for the purpose of photos, but I may try and video the trip from Ferrymead to the Tannery. It’s being well used with both cyclists and walkers. The full cycleway opened December last year – which was the first day I rode it. The start is just a bit down from the Ferrymead Heritage Park.

Coincidentally, I ended up at the Tannery this afternoon, so took a quick photo of the cycleway as it passes the Tannery (there are a couple of bike stands at the Tannery). The cycleway will take you all the way into the city from the Tannery. Or, if you wanted to go the other direction, you could do an easy cycle through Ferrymead Park, and then down Bridle Path Road and meet up with the (now also fully completed) Coastal Pathway. As a nearby resident, I’ve been super excited to have both of these cycleways fully open.
