We had a visit from a large Californian Quail family today. They seem to like our backyard for some reason, and will casually walk up the driveway. I always hear them before I see them. They had one very young quail with them and I was a little worried our cat might be interested in them. She instead, seems rather bemused by them, and so far has not made any attempt to capture any. She’s quick, but I don’t think even she would be quick enough, as they can take flight extremely quickly. I moved suddenly which caused them to take off, with even the chick keeping up with the bigger birds.
