A white-faced heron and a white heron at the top of Linwood Avenue by Charlesworth Reserve. The white heron is very rare in New Zealand, so seeing one within the city is quite remarkable. The white heron is not there all year round though – it’s only here for the winter and then it’s off again. It’s usually spotted here around late April – early May.

    Quite beautiful. We get the blue herons here, and some green herons, but that’s about it.

    Looks like a Great Egret as these are quite similar in appearance to Herons as there’s been controversy in the past concerning species names. Great capture of this pair of birds!
