There was a sandcastle competition on today at New Brighton beach. I’d missed the last one they had, so wasn’t sure what I was going to see. I was blown away by the work put into them. They were all in good in their own way, but some were just outstanding – the ape mother in particular.

Little kids seemed to really like this one! Lots of giggles.

Great view from the pier – also love the ape mother sand sculpture too!

I don’t know who (or what organisation) sets up all these events at New Brighton Beach, but good on them as they are doing an excellent job! If only one of the beaches near where I live in North Carolina could be such a hot spot, but the best I know of is Atlantic Beach, NC where a local kite sales outlet (Kites Unlimited) sponsors a kite festival each year, and of course the annual independence day fireworks at beaches nearby, albeit they are much smaller in scope than those at New Brighton. As for art on the beaches here in NC, New Brighton is light-years ahead of us!
