This art deco building is on Victoria Street. It was built in 1936 and is a category II historic place. So it’s nice to see that it came through all of the earthquakes ok.

Unfortunately many historic buildings have not made it through the earthquakes – have a look at the list of buildings we have lost on the Historic Places Trust.

We’ve had relatively few after shocks of late, but just today we had a decent sized quake (4.8) that was over in Pigeon Bay on the banks peninsula. It felt very weird here – very wobbly, quite different from a Port Hills quake which are sharp and nasty.
