Swans and Cygnets

For quite a few weeks I have been driving past these swans and their offspring (they live on the canal by Linwood Ave) and thinking ‘must try photographing them sometime’. Well today I thought it was about time – or they wouldn’t be cygnets for much longer. There are around 5 or 6 cygnets and two adults, but it would have taken me all day to get all of them in the photo with all of their heads up!

P.S. did you know that the canal that runs down Linwood Avenue was meant to go all the way into the city and join the Avon River so that ships could sail into the city from the estuary? Neither did I, but I am reliably informed that this was the case about mid 1800’s, but they built the railway at Lyttelton so they didn’t need to do it. I think it would have been pretty cool to have ships sailing through the city like that!
