The Christ Church Cathedral now has a steel frame with a replica facade that has the purpose of earthquake strengthening the building, weatherproofing it, and keeping the pigeons out. The steel frame will be part of the final restoration.

Should I assume there are plans to build a steel framed bell tower with faux facade above a certain level to greatly lighten the weight of its the upper structure for earth quake strengthening too? Glad to see some progress being made towards preservation and restoration after all these years.

Such special memories of the cathedral and surroundings from our visit in 2005, so glad to see it being preserved.
