This is the very newly opened Margaret Mahy Playground – named after the New Zealand children’s book author Margaret Mahy.
The playground is the largest in the southern hemisphere and had a budget of 20 million dollars. Today was a perfect day for a visit – a balmy and sunny 22 degrees. There were lots of families having picnics by the Avon River and some very excited children. We were very impressed with the highly interactive (and educational) attractions.
I think Christchurch families are extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful new attraction. No doubt it will help to revive this part of Christchurch as well (it’s just a short walk to New Regent Street).

Very impressive! Christchurch families are extremely fortunate indeed as we have nothing which even compares where I’m at. As for those balmy temperatures, ours have been much the same in North Carolina and breaking records for the past few days and appears they will be doing so until at least New Years Day — quite a change from the norm but I’m not complaining – not one bit (albeit I’m of a minority):)

Good choice for a name, and it does look big.

Just looking over the huge crowds out there and with Margaret Mahy Playground being so close to New Regent Street and the trams too, things should be getting super busy as the summer season progresses, like revival on steroids — money well spent indeed!
